HOTEL MACDONALD WEDDING, EDMONTON
If I were to simplify Lucy and Allan’s wedding into a single sentence, it would read like this: Gorgeous Hotel MacDonald Wedding filled with love and laughter, and followed up with an incredible AFTER session in the badlands of Drumheller. But their story deserves a greater telling, and it began, of all places, in the produce department. “Yes, I’d love to”, he said. Lucy had noticed this tall and mysterious guy one day; she kept stealing glimpses, and knew she needed to know more. Allan, for his part, was doing his best to be noticed. Or, at the very least, showing up everyday. They worked together you see, and it was there, in the produce department at Superstore, where Lucy finally summoned the courage to ask him out.
HOTEL MACDONALD’S WEDGEWOOD ROOM – THE PERFECT CHOICE
The ceremony was held at the Beulah Alliance Church, and one of Lucy’s favourite moments of the day was when she “walked into the church and saw Allan standing at the alter, waiting for me with tears in his eyes”. This is practically every bride’s dream come true. The Hotel MacDonald was an easy venue choice for Lucy and Allan; the Wedgewood Room in particular was perfectly suited. And there is something about the round room that makes for a really intimate feel. It becomes less about putting a few people on display, and more about bringing everyone together. There were games incorporating Allan’s love of fishing and Lucy’s love of music with Lucy’s sisters belting out a Fresh Prince of Bel-Air rap/speech, and Lucy’s childhood friend bringing down the house with a rendition of Ed Sheeran’s ‘Thinking Out Loud’ for their first dance. The night ended with a glorious party and a wonderful evening view of the river valley, the moon, and the stars.
BADLANDS IN A WEDDING DRESS
“I have an idea. What about Drumheller?” AFTER Sessions are some of my favourite things to shoot – it’s all the beauty of a wedding day, with none of the stress or time constraints. And it’s often how we get the very best wedding photos. It was a month or so after the wedding by now, and the crisp fall weather was the perfect setting for Lucy and Allan’s session. There’s nothing like hiking though the badlands in a wedding gown and suit. And we found our inspiration as the sun was setting over the coulees of southern Alberta. I’ll admit, some of the locations were a little difficult to reach, but I’m so grateful for adventurous souls. And after some scrambling across the hoodoos, we found some of the most amazingly beautiful landscape Drumheller has to offer.
