INTIMATE FLORENCE WEDDING, ITALY ELOPEMENT
“We should elope to Italy” she said. David simply smiled. I mean, an Italy elopement sounds amazing. And with families spread across different continents and separated by an ocean, it was going to be nearly impossible to gather everyone in one place for their wedding. Italy just ended up making the most sense. And anyway, Florence is a place for lovers. The city is filled with art, with beautiful architecture and amazing viewpoints. And then there is the food, the music, the wine – it truly is the most romantic place to exchange your handwritten vows.
The wedding day was a simple affair, though beautiful. Getting ready in their hotel, they avoided seeing each other until their first look, which they followed up by walking through the streets in the morning before the crowds arrived en masse. Their ceremony took place back on their hotel balcony, overlooking the River Arno and Ponte Trinita. The crowds below cheered as Jade and David kissed, surprising us all with their exuberance. Moments later, the church bells rang, as if on cue.
It was a warm day, 30+ degrees celcius, so we found refreshments where we could. Gelato at Perche No! was a great choice (the BEST gelato in Florence), but the highlight may have been the Volkswagon Beetle convertible car they rented to tour Florence and Fiesole. The views from the Piazzale Michelangelo were postcard worthy, and touring into the surrounding countryside was a great way to chase the evening light.
We ended the evening with some night photos in front of the famous Ponte Vecchio, and on a rooftop patio overlooking the city lights, before making one last foray into the piazza for a ride on the carrousel. The warm weather finally broke and we frolicked in the rain as our amazing day together came to a close.
