FAIRMONT HOTEL MACDONALD WEDDING, EDMONTON
Edmonton’s claim to fame, besides the hockey team of the 1980’s, is it’s beautiful river valley nuzzled right into the heart of the city. The trail system is fantastic, and it’s so wonderful being able to escape the buzz of congestion and retreat back into nature, even if its only for a few moments. Naturally, one of the best things about getting married at the Fairmont Hotel MacDonald is that you are situated at the very top of the river valley, with a gorgeous view of the natural side of the city. The courtyard behind the hotel is stunning, the view is wonderful, and the hotel features some of the oldest architecture in the city.
I particularly love the Wedgewood Room. It’s completely circular, has great details running up the walls and the ceiling, and for smaller weddings, the room creates a very cozy and intimate experience. Lisa and Brian liked all of these things – the river valley, the Hotel, the Wedgewood Room…but they also really liked the older character that you only find in the older parts of the city. So for the wedding photos, we took the short drive down Jasper Avenue in search of some texture and colour. The buildings we found were the perfect backdrop for this hilariously fun couple. One last thing – Lisa is a fantastic dance instructor, and as a treat, a number of her students showed up to perform for all the guests at the wedding. It was touching, and once the dance started in ernest, well, there was no shortage of people ready to start things off!
